Dato’ Dr Bavanandam Naidu Gopal was the Head of Department in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar till December 2022. He had completed his undergraduate training at UKM and postgraduate training at USM hospital. He held a position of Honorary Fellow in Maternal Fetal Medicine for a year at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne in 2004 and was gazetted as Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist under Ministry of Health, Malaysia in 2006. While in government service, he headed the Maternal Fetal Subspeciality Committee, Ministry of Health. He has been co-opted into the committee currently to supervise Maternal Fetal Subspeciality program under Ministry of Health. He was the President of the Perinatal Society of Malaysia(PSM) for the term 2013/2014. He was also the Maternal Fetal Medicine Sub Committee Chairperson in Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia(OGSM) from  2014 till 2018. He was a one of the founding member of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Society(MFM) of Malaysia and is currently it’s treasurer. He has been involved scientific presentations, research and also has been in numerous committees in Ministry of Health responsible for preparation of national guidelines related to Obstetric care. Currently he is a visiting Consultant in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology at a private center and a Clinical Professor at the AIMST University.
