Charlaine obtained a LLB (Hons) Law from Cardiff University, UK and graduated with a distinction from the Bar Vocational Course in UK. She was called to the Utter Bar of England & Wales as a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. Subsequently, she completed stints in London and Hong Kong before returning to Malaysia.

Charlaine represents medical and dental practitioners in civil suits and disciplinary inquiries. Notably, she was part of the team that successfully defended medical practitioners in a host of landmark appeals to the Federal Court, Malaysia’s highest court, which clarified the issues of the standard of care in respect of a doctors’ duty to diagnose and treat as well as a doctor’s duty to advise of risks. She also advises private healthcare corporations pertaining to medicolegal matters and conducts medicolegal workshops for the Ministry of Health, Malaysia.

She has co-authored several written publications on medical negligence, digital healthcare and healthcare enforcement and regularly presents at international and local medico-legal conferences. She also lectures on an ad-hoc basis at several private and public universities. The new and emerging areas of keen interest of hers include artificial intelligence and digital healthcare.

Active on the medico-legal scene, Charlaine has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Malaysia Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia since 2016 and is currently its Honorary Treasurer
