Associate Professor SOON is a nursing and midwifery professional. Originally from Taiping, Perak.  Assoc Prof. SOON started her career as a registered nurse (Operation Theatre) and midwife, then furthered her studies nationally and abroad.  She received her Bachelor of Nursing Sciences (Teaching)(Hons) from Universiti Malaya, Master of Midwifery from Flinders University South Australia, and Doctor of Philosophy from Flinders University South Australia.

Her experience in research focuses on nursing, midwifery, oncology, women and public health and interventions.  She has more than five funded studies (more than MYR120K) and more than 30 publications in international and national healthcare journals and international presentations. Assoc Prof. SOON has developed international and national inter-institutional partnerships and demonstrates excellent contributions to the nursing profession related to nursing practice, research and education. She was appointed Host Supervisor for Dr Anne Wilson of the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2011.

Assoc. Prof. SOON has served on the editorial board of renowned journals.  Her leadership is evident in her former appointment as secretary of the Human Research Ethics Committee by Universiti Sains Malaysia, Adjunct Assoc Professor of Sunway University and Asia eUniversity and Board of Governors of the Ramsay Healthcare College.

Assoc Prof. SOON has been honoured for her significant and sustained contribution to nursing research.  In 2018, she was awarded the “Sanggal Sanjung Category for Publications” by Universiti Sains Malaysia.
