Overseas Programme

The OGSM has been actively involved in training health professionals in Obstetric Emergencies not just locally in Malaysia but also abroad.

From 2011 to 2014, the LSSC was conducted annually in Yangon and has over that period, trained more than 150 doctors.

One LSSC course was conducted at the Faulty of Medicine, University of Health Sciences Phnom Penh, in collaboration with the Cambodian Society of Gynaecology & Obstetrics ( SCGO ) in 2012. A total of 21 senior consultants participated in this course.

A LSSC course was conducted at the Rumah Sakit Budi Kemuliaan in December 2012 for 26 participants, with 5 trainers from OGSM and 1 guest faculty from Penang Medical College, Prof Knox Ritchie.

Since the retirement of the LSSC and development of iCOE, it is the vision of the OGSM that iCOE will continue to provide useful training to doctors caring for women and their unborn children, and result in safer pregnancies and childbirth for women beyond our borders.

The inaugural iCOE was held in Yangon, Myanmar, in early 2014 at the 500-bedded Military Hospital No. 2. This was attended by 28 participants and proved to be hugely successful. 12 specialists attended the Train The Trainers' course and were certified to be the core trainers for Myanmar.

It is anticipated that at least one course will be held overseas annually henceforth.
